Attention is the only currency a live moment runs on, and it cannot be bought, only earned by design. Five principles guide how we spend it.
1. One focus at a time
A room can hold exactly one shared focus. Competing moments split the audience into fragments and every fragment feels smaller than the room.
2. Proximity beats scale
A potter's wheel two metres away outperforms a screen ten metres wide. Bodies believe what happens near them.
3. Let people watch each other
Round the seating. Half of the show is the other guests' faces.
4. Protect the arrival
The first ninety seconds set the contract for the night. Never spend them on logistics.
5. End on an image
People remember the last complete picture, not the last announcement. Design the final frame like a photograph you want them to keep.
